APPLICATION DEADLINE NEARING FOR SOUTHEASTERN’S SPECIAL TERM
HAMMOND --  Applications for Southeastern Louisiana University’s special eight-week compressed term will be accepted through Monday, Oct. 17 with classes scheduled to begin Oct. 20.
More than 90 courses, most offering three hours credit, are being offered in the term, which was expanded in response to needs expressed by Southeastern and area students displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
The special term is open to current Southeastern students as well as visiting students and new students, said Dean of Enrollment Management Steve Soutullo.
While Southeastern has enrolled in its regular semester more than 1,200 additional students from the Greater New Orleans area whose education was interrupted by the storm, the university also lost approximately 700 students who resigned because they could not return immediately to the campus, according to Soutullo.
“A significant number of those students have indicated that they can now resume their studies,” he said. “The compressed term will allow them and other students to obtain some college credit for the semester.
Information on the special semester can be obtained by calling Enrollment Services, 985-549-2062 or 1-800-222-7358, or by visiting the university web site, www.selu.edu, where a link to the term’s courses and the application and registration process is available.
Students previously enrolled in an institution affected by Hurricane Katrina who have not yet applied for admission to Southeastern must fill out a “Guest Student Application” by Monday, Oct. 17.
Applications are available at the Office of Admissions in room 113 of the North Campus Main Building.
New students who were not enrolled in Katrina-affected institutions must also apply for admission by Oct. 17 and must meet Southeastern’s regular admission requirements.
Students may register for classes at the Office of Records and Registration in room 107 of the North Campus Main Building.
