SLU POLICE OFFICERS CERTIFIED AS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CRIME IN-SERVICE TRAINERS
HAMMOND -- Two Southeastern Louisiana University police officers have been certified to offer in-service training in the area of domestic violence crimes.
Sgts. Jason Johnston and Hal Price attended a “train-the-trainer” program on domestic violence at the LaFourche Parish Training Academy in Thibodaux, June 9-13. Sponsored by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Ga., the program certified the officers as STAR (Small Town and Rural) trainers in domestic violence.
The train-the-trainer program is designed to increase the effectiveness of experienced law enforcement officers in reporting and investigating domestic violence crimes. STAR trainers return to their respective jurisdictions with the necessary training aids to offer in-service training.
The instructor certification program included police officers and victims advocates from Louisiana, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Guam.
For information about domestic violence in-service training, contact Johnston or Price at the Southeastern University Police Department, 985-549-2222.
