SHARP EDGES PRESENTS WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH DANCE
PERFORMANCE
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana
University and the Sharp Edges dance company will present “Hereafter Know
As . . . a Study in Losing and Gaining Definition” at noon, March 26, in
the War Memorial Student Union Ballroom.
Southeastern faculty member Greta
Sharp, the Sharp Edges dance company coordinator, has choreographed this
new work as part of the university’s month-long celebration of Women’s
History Month.
“The performance leaves one with
a feeling of hope and light,” said Sharp. “It speaks to every woman. It
asks the question how do we define ourselves now in 2003? ”
By using a mix of antiquated
stereotypes and farcical situations in a series of solo and group pieces,
Sharp said the performance takes a look at definitions of women that are
reflected in today’s media and society.
Dancers include Sharp,
Karolena Belak and Michele Cudd, Hammond; Dianna Figueroa, Covington; Lesley
Kernan, Prairieville, and Stacie Sabathe, Chalmette.
Sharp presented a piece titled
“Without Age” during last year’s Women’s History Month celebration. Women’s
History Month, she said, “It is something I believe strongly in. I attended
Mills College, an all-women’s private college in Oakland, Calif., for my
graduate work.”
