SOUTHEASTERN WIND SYMPHONY SELECTED FOR NATIONAL
CONFERENCE
HAMMOND -- The Southeastern
Louisiana University Wind Symphony is one of eight collegiate wind bands
from throughout the south selected to perform at a regional conference
of the College Band Directors National Association and the National
Band Association.
CBDNA is the largest professional
organization of wind band conductors in the world, while the NBA is one
of the largest organizations for conductors of public and private schools
and college bands.
The bands were chosen by a committee
of college wind band conductors in a blind evaluation, said Glen Hemberger,
Southeastern director of bands. Nearly two dozen ensembles submitted tapes
to perform at the prestigious event, which will be held in February 2004
at Emory University in Atlanta. The Southeastern Wind Symphony will perform
at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2004.
“No other ensembles from Louisiana
were selected, and this is the first conference appearance for the Wind
Symphony,” Hemberger said. Other college wind groups selected to perform
include Eastern Kentucky University, Florida International University,
Furman University, Georgia State University, the University of Georgia,
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and Western Kentucky University.
The Wind Symphony will make performance
appearances at high schools in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia on its
tour, culminating with its performance at Emory, Hemberger said.
Regional conferences of CBDNA
are held on a biennial basis, with universities rotating as host institutions. |
