SLU STUDENT TEAM PLACES HIGH IN PROGRAMMING CONTEST
     HAMMOND -- A student team from Southeastern Louisiana University's chapter of the
Association for Computing Machinery placed twenty-third in a 73-school field   and first among
participating Louisiana universities   in the Southeast Regional Programming Contest Nov. 7-8
at Rice University in Houston, Texas.
     Team members, who were chosen through a campus programming contest, were seniors
Daryl Davis and Eric Seneca of Baton Rouge, Ray DeJean of Ponchatoula and Quentin McGuire
of Harvey; juniors Bryan Murray of Covington and Spurlock Blank of Hammond and
sophomores  Jason Lanclos of Hammond and Doug Mitchell of Loranger. The chapter's advisor
is computer science professor Tom Higginbotham.
     The teams were given seven programming problems to solve in six hours. The
team solving the most problems in the least time finished first. Southeastern solved one of its
problems in just 89 minutes, team members said. The students trip to the national contest was
sponsored by Southeastern's computer science department.
