SLU AFRICAN-AMERICAN ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS WINNERS ANNOUNCED

HAMMOND, LA -- Southeastern Louisiana University 's Office of Multicultural affairs
recently held its annual African American Achievement Awards.
Karen Crocker of Roseland was named "Female Role Model of the Year," and Rahni
Kennedy of Baton Rouge was named "Male Role Model of the Year." Kennedy also received
the Pinnacle Award for the Junior Class. The students were selected based on their grades,
outstanding personal characteristics and demonstrated involvement with the university and/or the
community. The"Outstanding Campus Leader Award" went to Tanjanesia Jackson of New
Orleans.
Runners up for the role model awards were: Mack Jackson II, McComb, Miss.;
Reynauldo Smith, LaPlace, Camille Jackson, Hammond and Sandy Armstead, Plaquemine.
"Pinnacle Awards" are given to the person in each class with the highest cumulative
grade point average. "Mr. Pinnacle" awards went to Patrick Harrison, Hammond, freshman class;
Brandon Kennard, Laplace, sophomore class; and Laried Malter, Slidell, senior class. "Ms.
Pinnacle" awards were received by Je'na Wells, Tickfaw and Amleset Kidane, Riverdale,
Maryland, freshman; Taiwana Key , Baton Rouge, sophomore; Joan Jackson, Covington, junior
class and Ella Breakbill, Hammond, senior class.
Runners-up for Pinnacle Awards were: Otis Richardson III, Amite; John W. Jones Jr., Mt.
Hermon; Tyra Wilson and Derrick Collins, Ponchatoula; Brandi Bass, Jeannine Perrault and
Devona Hollingsworth, New Orleans; Rondell Parker, Geismar; Reynauldo Smith, Laplace;
Melanie Brown, Bastrop; Doniel Franklin, Camas, Wash.; Zaid Ramadan, Hammond; Lamont
Jenkins, Covington; Dana Brown, Slidell; Norman Davis, Independence; and Chikenna Cain,
Baton Rouge.

AFRICAN AMERICAN AWARDS/ ADD ONE
Outstanding Male and Female Athlete of the Year went to Glen Charles of Sunset and
Yolanda Creer of Baton Rouge.
The Unity Award was presented to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, whose members include
Rodney Robertson, Pine Grove; Glenn Butler, Jr., Kentwood; Levor Franklin and Lamar
Toulouse of Boothville; Michael Harrell, Natalbany; Jerry Hill, Bogalusa; Mack Jackson III and
Trebor Smith, McComb, Miss; Terran Perry, Hammond and Vincent Showers, Abita Springs.
Students receiving awards for their participation in the African American Male Role
Model Program were: Reginald Sanders, Eric Spears and Kentrell Hills of Hammond; Frank
Harding, Norco; Vincent Matthews, Varnado; Aaron Lewis, Sun; and Kevin Brown, Amite.
