ALICE FOSTER ON CAMPUS MONDAY TO PROMOTE YOU ARE
SUNSHINE PROJECT
     HAMMOND -- Louisiana s First Lady Alice Foster will visit the campus of Southeastern
Louisiana University on Monday, October 5, 1998 to accept a donation in support of her literacy
project and to read to area school children.
     The first lady will be accepting a $5,000 donation from Joe Skaggs, senior vice president
for sales and operations for Follett College Stores, the company operating Southeastern s
bookstore. The money will be used to purchase You Are Sunshine books, the feature book that
was authored by Shirley Porter especially for the first lady s signature literacy project. The
presentation will take place at the Alumni Center, 500 W. University Ave., on Monday at 4 p.m.
     Immediately following the presentation, Mrs. Foster will read to children and greet
Southeastern students who are currently serving as reading tutors in area schools. Her ultimate
goal is to donate a copy of the Sunshine book to every five-year-old child in the state of
Louisiana.
     In addition, copies of You Are Sunshine will be signed by the author and sold at
Southeastern s bookstore on Thursday, October 8 from 5 - 7 p.m.  This effort will assist the first
lady meet her book donation goal.
