DONNA TAYLOR IS NEW SLU ALUMNI PRESIDENT
     HAMMOND -- Donna Fugarino Taylor of Hammond began her term as president of the
Southeastern Louisiana University Alumni Association on July 1, taking over the association's
top office from 1997-98 president Lloyd Spring, also of Hammond.
     Joining Taylor on the association's leadership panel for 1998-99 are President-Elect
Jackie Dale Thomas of Hammond, director of Leadership Development and Student Activities at
Southeastern, and Treasurer Charles "Tiger" Edwards of Covington, a coach at Covington High
School. 
     The officers and four new board members were elected by active Alumni Association
members by mail-in ballot in May. New board members chosen for two-year terms are Sheree
Abel of Hammond, director of Southeastern's Follett Bookstore; Duane A. Donald of Slidell,
assistant vice president at Deposit Guaranty Bank; Chris Bivona Eleser of Hammond,
Southeastern assistant professor of critical thinking, and Sharon Hebert of Metairie, an account
executive with BellSouth Yellow Pages.
     The slate of new board members is rounded out by presidential appointees Doug Johnson
of Hammond and D.J. Latino of Kenner, who serve one-year terms. 
     Welcoming the board newcomers are Secretary Cindy Collins of Hammond and board
members Nelie Durham and Guy Recotta Jr., Hammond; Nick Joseph, Independence, and Noelle
Settoon Vaughan, Ponchatoula.
     Taylor, vice president of Asset Management with Stirling Properties, Inc., earned her
Southeastern bachelor's degree in marketing in 1982 and a master's degree in Business
Administration in 1993. She has served on the Alumni Association board of directors, and the

boards of directors for the Richard Murphy Foundation, Stirling Properties, Inc., and the
Louisiana Society of CPAs. 
     Thomas, who earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Southeastern in 1974 and
1975, has been a member of the Southeastern staff since 1980. As director of Leadership
Development and Student Activities, she helps coordinate Homecoming, the Dream Team,
Campus Activities Board, Gamma Beta Phi, Kappa Delta Tau, and the Miss Southeastern
pageant. A native of Bogalusa, Thomas is a past member of the alumni board and its long-time
secretary. She received the association's L.E. Chandler Service Award and Distinguished Service
Award and the university's prestigious President's Award for Excellence in Service in 1997.
     Edwards graduated from Southeastern in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in health and
physical education and earned a master's degree in 1997. As a student, he was a member of Delta
Tau Delta fraternity, a cheerleader, mascot "Roomie," and was senior class vice president. He is a
coach at Covington High School and led Salmen High School to three state football
championships. He is a past member of the alumni board and athletic committee.
