ART & ALL THAT JAZZ WEEKEND OCT 10-11 IN HAMMOND
HAMMOND -- The Heart of downtown Hammond will be the site of the Art and All
That Jazz Weekend Saturday October 10 and Sunday October 11.
The weekend kicks off Saturday with Jazz Downtown, a mini jazz festival and street
party under the stars. The Jazz Downtown concert features encore performances by the New
Leviathan Oriental Fox Trot Orchestra and New Orleans Wanda Rouzan and her band A Taste
of New Orleans. New this year are jazz trumpeter Marvin Stamm and the Tangiaphoa All-Star
Band, and for Cajun music lovers, the Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band will perform. The fun starts
at 6 pm in front of the Deposit Guaranty Bank. The concert is free and open to the public.
Sunday s Gallery Stroll, 1pm- 5pm, will feature the music of the David Bivens Band.
Visitors are encouraged to enjoy a jazz brunch in one of six downtown restaurants. Brunch
begins at 11 am and reservations are suggested. Participating restaurants are: Caf‚ & Bakery
Edelweiss, Jordan s on Cate, La Carreta Mexican Restaurant, Bradys, Coffee Rani and Mariner s
Inn. Following brunch it s time to stroll the sidewalks of historic downtown Hammond where
galleries, restaurants and businesses will display the work of area artists.
The Artisan s Row, located behind the Hammond Chamber of Commerce, is where
regional artists will display and sell their work and the Children s Tent will have hands-on
activities for the youngsters. Special Children s Tent guest, gumball artist Franz Spohn, will
work with the children to create a colorful and delicious work of art.
The Art and All That Jazz weekend is sponsored by the Downtown Development
District, FANFARE, BellSouth Mobility, J.C. Penney, the City of Hammond, Bravo Music,
North Oaks Medical Center, Deposit Guaranty Bank and Southeastern s Cultural Resource
Management Program.
