HAMMOND ARTS AWARDS LUNCHEON HONORS LOCALS
     HAMMOND -- As part of Hammond's Azalea Festival activities, outstanding members
of the community will be honored for their work in the arts at the Hammond Arts Awards,
Friday, March 19.
     Honorees will be recognized at an awards luncheon at noon at Southeastern's Alumni
Center, 500 W. University Avenue. Tickets are $15 and proceeds will benefit the Hammond
Regional Arts Center. 
     Ralph Pottle Jr, has been selected as the lifetime achievement recipient. Pottle, a 1949
Southeastern graduate, performed on french horn with the Boston Symphony Orchestra for many
years. He is a member of Southeastern's music department where he has served as artist in
residence. Pottle has performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and with various
symphony orchestras and opera productions since returning to Hammond. 
     Pottle joined the Louisiana State University faculty following his graduate studies which
included a Fulbright scholarship in Europe.
     Other honorees include advertising executive Nick Gagliano, design; historian and author
Samuel Hyde Jr., literature; voice teacher Gina Anthon, music; community theatre member
Linda
Broussard, theatre; Ponchatoula's Mail Car Gallery, visual arts; artist and Southeastern Lab
School art teacher Denise Holly, arts in education; dance instructor and choreographer Rowanna
Currier, dance; Southeastern's Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, outstanding volunteer; and John and
Brenda Braud, patron of the arts.
