SLU'S COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCES SHOWS "ORIGINAL" PRIDE
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's College of Arts and Science wanted
to participate in the university's monthly "Pride Day" in an original -- and united -- way.
So up stepped James Cook, who just might have started something.
Cook, a criminal justice major and student worker in Dean John Miller's office,
volunteered to design a special Arts & Sciences Pride Day t-shirt so that the college's faculty,
staff and students could collectively show their "green and gold spirit" on the last Thursday of
each month.
Cook put his computer skills to work -- "Computers are my hobby," he explains -- and
came up with a green and gold design of a smiling Southeastern Lion circled by the college's
name. Beneath the logo are the College's 16 departments and divisions.
The college is offering the t-shirts in either navy or "ash" colors for $12. A "henly"
version with a smaller version of the logo is available for $17.
Forty-eight faculty, staff and students ordered the shirt for September Pride Day and more
orders are expected for this month's Pride Day, Oct. 24.
Anyone who wants a shirt can order one at the College of Arts and Sciences office on the
second floor of D Vickers Hall or at college departmental offices.
The College of Arts and Science's "pride" hasn't gone unnoticed.
"The Dean showed it to President (Sally) Clausen and she really like it," said Cook. "I've
heard several of the other colleges are designing shirts now."
