COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES NAMES TWO DISTINGUISHED PROFESSORS
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's College of Arts and Sciences has
awarded "distinguished teaching professorships" to English professor Richard Louth and industrial
technology professor Louise Bostic.
Louth, director of the university's Southeastern Louisiana Writing Project and past recipient of
the College of Arts and Sciences' Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching, was named to the last of
three Distinguished Professorships in the Humanities created at Southeastern through a National
Endowment for the Humanities challenge grant. History professors C. Howard Nichols and William
Robison hold the Woman's Hospital Distinguished Teaching Professorship in the Humanities and the
Fay Warren Reimers Distinguished Teaching Professorship, respectively. The professorships are
awarded for three years.
Bostic was awarded the BellSouth Distinguished Professorship in Industrial Technology. The
professorship was established through a $60,000 endowment from BellSouth and additional funding
from the Louisiana Education Quality Support Fund and is awarded for one year. Last year's recipient
was industrial technology professor David Buell.
Bostic said as the BellSouth Distinguished Professor she will develop a model for an
interdepartmental technology course that will combine programming and application for students in
industrial technology and computer science.
Louth said he plans to conduct research in the areas of Louisiana and Southern literature,
continuing his previous concentration on author William Faulkner. His work may result in a lecture
this spring and a special studies course for English majors, he said.
