DIRECTOR OFFERS MUSICAL THEATRE MASTER CLASSES AT SLU
     HAMMOND -- Gary Bird, professor and director of musical theatre in
the School of Music at the University of Michigan, will present a series of master classes during
a week-long residence at Southeastern Louisiana University, Aug. 26-Sept. 2.
     Bird has directed over 60  plays and musicals in academic, community and
professional settings, including a productions of "The Fantastick" and "Cinderella" at
Southeastern.  His most recent productions have been "Grand Hotel," "The Mystery of Edwin
Drood," "West Side Story," "Anything Goes" and "Grease."
     Bird also presented a master class in musical theatre at Southeastern last March. His
residency is sponsored by Southeastern's Opera-Music Theatre Program.
     Master classes, which are open to students and the general public, are scheduled for:
      Aug. 26: 4-6 p.m., Music Recital Hall
      Aug. 30, 6:30-8:30 p.m., choir room, Music Annex
      Aug. 31, 4-6 p.m., Music Recital Hall
      Sept. 1, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Music Recital Hall
      Sept. 2, 4-6 p.m., Music Recital Hall.
