
Major campus construction boom
underway 

Campus
Gate. A new grand entrance gate to the University
was constructed this summer as a joint project by the Student Government Association and the
University. When completed, visitors will enter campus at University Avenue (formerly
Columbus
Drive) and Sycamore Steet, which was recently widened to four lanes.
College of Business. A landmark $3.5 million renovation
project expanding the College of Business is scheduled for completion this fall. This complete
overhaul will make the 48,000 square-foot building that once housed the library the second
largest
classroom complex on campus. The CollegeÕs new quarters will include two Harvard-style
classrooms, eight standard sized classrooms and six small classrooms, along with three
microcomputer labs, a business research center, Small Business Development Center, three
conference rooms, and faculty offices.
Greek Row. A 15-acre tract north of campus is being
developed to build one of the most attractive Greek Rows in the state. "Our goal is to develop a
first class fraternity row that the University, students and community can be proud of," said
Provost Randy Moffett. Sigma Tau Gamma and Delta Tau Delta have already expressed intent to
build there.
Welcome Center and new Campus Police Headquarters. The
old military science building is being renovated and converted to a new Welcome Center and
state-of-the-art office for campus police.
Pursley Hall. In addition to a new and contemporary facade,
renovations will provide
faculty and students with first-rate classrooms and laboratories. Updates to the Science Annex
are
also underway.
New Classroom Facility. The state legislature has proposed
$1.3 million planning money for a new multi-purpose classroom and science research building .
This building, which will cost approximately $13 million to construct, will be the first academic
facility to be built on campus since 1971.
Baseball Stadium. Newly constructed Alumni Field has
given
a shot in the arm to the baseball program. A record-breaking crowd of 3,500 fans packed the
stadium this year. The stadium is luxuriously equipped with field level box seats, grandstand
press
boxes, and an inning-by-inning scoreboard. The $750,000 project was funded by the Alumni
Association and SLU Booster Club.
Recreation Facility.student approved fee assessment will
finance a $9.9 million recreation-fitness center, containing a four-court gymnasium, racquetball
courts, and a three-lane suspended jogging track.
Westside School. Thanks to the Louisiana LegislatureÕs
recent $4.4 million appropriation, Southeastern will renovate and convert the old elementary
school to university classrooms and offices.
