HONORS LECTURER TO SPEAK ON CANCER AND HEALING
HAMMOND -- Cancer survivor Andrea Kolar will speak on "Suffering into Rebirth: A
Complementary Approach to Healing from Cancer" at Southeastern Louisiana University on
February 21.
Her lecture, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall, is sponsored by the
Southeastern's Honors Program, College of Nursing and the Health Sciences, and Arts and
Lectures Committee. It is free and open to the public.
Last fall, Kolar received the Portz Scholars Research Prize, the National Collegiate
Honors Council's most prestigious award, given for the best senior Honors thesis. She completed
her thesis at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn., while coping with a devastating
diagnosis of cancer. For her paper, Kolar researched spiritual, artistic, and therapeutic sources
and examined in-depth the stages of her own recovery.
In addition to the evening lecture, Kolar also will talk to Southeastern faculty about
introducing readings about healing into courses designed especially for students in nursing. She
will also meet with an honors class studying modern science and religion, and will talk with
another group of students about service learning.
For additional information, call the Honors Center, 985-549-2135.
