SLU SPONSORS CHINESE CULTURAL EXHIBITION
HAMMOND -- A Chinese Culture exhibit will be displayed Feb. 12-March 14 at
Southeastern Louisiana University's Sims Memorial Library.
The exhibition will include clothing, art, books, toys and other objects reflecting
everyday life in China, said gallery director Don Marshall. The objects are from collections of
the Wong family of Hammond and from Southeastern faculty members G. Warren Smith,
William Pedersen and Mary White.
As a companion to the exhibit, the Southeastern Film and Video Society will sponsor a
contemporary Chinese film festival at 7 p.m. on Thursdays from Feb. 13 to March 13. Five
award-winning Chinese films, with English subtitles, will be shown in the Media Department,
Room 252, at Sims Memorial Library. The films are free to the public.
The schedule is: "Farewell My Concubine," Feb. 13; "Red Firecracker, Green
Firecracker," Feb. 20; "To Live," Feb. 27; "Raise the Red Lantern," March 6, and "Story of Qui
Ju," March 13.
During the Southeastern Alumni Association's March 8 "Rock 'n Roar" celebration, the
Wong brothers will present a traditional Chinese Dragon Dance.
For additional information about the exhibit and film series, call Marshall at 549-5080.
