SON'S SCHOLARSHIP HONORS BILL AND KATHERINE CLARK
HAMMOND -- Former Hammond residents Roger and Irene Morel Clark have established a
scholarship at Southeastern Louisiana University in honor of Roger Clark's parents, Professor
Emeritus of Special Education Bill Clark and retired Southeastern Lab School teacher Katherine
Clark.
The Bill and Katherine Clark Scholarship in Education will be presented annually through the
Southeastern Development Foundation to an entering freshman from Bishop Sullivan High
School in Baton Rouge or St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Hammond. The first recipient of
the $700 per year scholarship was Heather Renee Yokley of Baton Rouge. She was chosen by
Southeastern's Dean of the College of Education based on criteria that included an essay on "My
Family, My Teachers, My Beliefs."
Bill Clark was a member of Southeastern's Special Education Department faculty for 22
years. A graduate of Northeastern State College of Oklahoma and Louisiana State University, he
was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus upon he retirement in 1977. Active in civic affairs,
Mr. Clark was chosen as an Olympic torch bearer and was a semi-finalist in the Community
Service category of the Kentucky Fried Chicken Colonel's Way Award, a national award
recognizing the outstanding achievements of senior citizens.
In addition to teaching sixth grade at the SLU Lab School, Katherine Clark, a graduate of the
University of Southwestern Louisiana and Southeastern, taught at Woodland Park Elementary
and Ponchatoula Elementary. She continues to work part time at Southeastern as a

Roger and Irene Clark, who now live in Baton Rouge, are both Southeastern graduates.
Roger Clark is president of Sterling Lending Corporation, while Irene Clark is a retired
teacher who taught at Our Lady of Mercy in Baton Rouge and schools in New Orleans and
Bloomington, Ill.
