SOUTHEASTERN PRESIDENT RECOGNIZED BY B.R. BUSINESS REPORT
HAMMOND Southeastern Louisiana University President Sally Clausen was named one of
Baton Rouge Business Report's 2001 "Influential Women in Business."
Clausen was one of eight area business and professional women selected for the designation
from hundreds of nominations that had been submitted by businesses and organizations. The
women were recognized at a special luncheon on Tuesday (June 12).
Now completing her sixth year as president at Southeastern, Clausen will take over July 1 as
president of the University of Louisiana System, the governing board for eight Louisiana
regional universities, including Southeastern, with a total enrollment of more than 80,000
students.
She was cited by the Business Report for her commitment to educational reform. The
publication acknowledged her offer the first of its kind in the state to area school districts to
"guarantee" that teaching graduates from Southeastern would be able to teach to diverse student
populations, be masters of their subject matter, and be able to infuse technology into the
curriculum or the university would retrain them for free. She was also recognized for initiating
quality admission standards at the university, spearheading the university's five-year strategic
plan, overseeing a significant expansion of the physical plant, developing strong partnerships
with school districts and businesses, and improving the university's fundraising success.
Clausen was also recently recognized by Southeastern's the Council of Department Heads
with a special resolution of gratitude and support. The resolution cited her efforts to create a
"positive image for Southeastern because of her vision, forthrightness, concern and astuteness."
The faculty resolution praised Clausen's efforts on behalf of students and her support for faculty
achievement.
