PUBLIC INVITED TO FAREWELL RECEPTION FOR CLAUSEN
HAMMOND Southeastern Louisiana University's outgoing president Sally Clausen will be
honored at a reception to be held at the university on Tuesday, June 19.
The general public is invited to attend the reception which will be held from 5 7 p.m. at
Southeastern's new Student Activity Center located on University Avenue and General Pershing
Street. The event will feature brief comments from area officials, faculty, students and others.
On July 1 Clausen will assume the presidency of the University of Louisiana System, the
governing body for the state's eight regional universities, including Southeastern, with a total
enrollment of more than 80,000 students. She succeeds Bobby Jindal, who has joined the Bush
Administration in Washington, D.C.
Clausen came to Southeastern in 1995 after having served several years in state higher
education administration, including Secretary of Education. During her tenure at Southeastern,
the university has initiated quality admission standards for incoming students, significantly
reduced developmental education costs through partnerships with area school districts, raised
faculty salaries by nearly 25 percent and increased private fund raising by more than 950%. In
addition, in the last several years, the university has experienced a construction boom with new
and renovated academic facilities, the Student Activity Center and several other construction
projects expected to start later this year.
