SLU FORMING COMMUNITY BAND
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Community Music School is inviting
area residents to dust off their old band instruments and get back into the swing -- and fun -- of
making
music.
The Community Music School, which offers private lessons and ensembles for children and
adults, is now forming a community band, said Director Thais Perkins.
The North Shore Regional Community Band will be headed by Southeastern's Director of
Bands Frank Dubuy. The band is open to all adults in the Northshore area. Members will meet
for one
rehearsal a week, beginning Feb. 17 in the Music Band Room in the Pottle Music Building
Annex.
Dubuy, who joined the Southeastern Music Department in 1994, was an Army band officer
for 21 years, serving with the U.S. Army Band (Pershing's Own). He also was director of the
Army
Orchestra, Army Chorus and Chorale and the Soldier's Chorus of the U.S. Army Field Band, and
was
commander and conductor of the U.S. Military Academy Band. He holds music degrees from
Arizona
State University, the University of Calgary, and Texas Christian University.
For additional information, call Dubuy at (504)549-2196 or Community Music School
Director Thais Perkins at (504)549-5938.
