MUSIC COLLAGE CONCERT IN POTTLE FRIDAY EVENING
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Department of Music and Dramatic
Arts will present its Music Collage Concert at 7 p.m., Friday, November 30, in the Pottle Music
Building Auditorium.
The special concert will celebrate the 140 high school musicians who were chosen from
31 high schools to participate in the 15th annual Southeastern High School Honor Band Festival,
said Southeastern Director of Bands Glen J. Hemberger. The free performance will feature
ensembles, students, and faculty in a fast-paced, 60-minute montage of music, Hemberger said.
"The High School Honor Band Festival, one of the most popular of its kind in the region,
is in residence at Southeastern for two days each fall," said Hemberger, who selects and
coordinates the prestigious band.
Hemberger said the Collage Concert program will feature the highly acclaimed
Southeastern Wind Symphony, guest conducted by Thomas Lee, director of bands at the
University of California-Los Angeles. Also performing will be Southeastern faculty J. Farrell
Vernon, saxophone, and Patrick Kerber, guitar; the Southeastern Faculty Woodwind Trio with
Deborah Andrus, clarinet, Jerry Voorhees, bassoon, and Carolyn Treybig, flute; the Trumpet
Ensemble directed by Bryan DePoy, and the Southeastern Faculty Brass Quintet.
The program also will include solos by sophomore performance majors Jariell Jackson,
euphonium, and Summer Grest, soprano.
