SOUTHEASTERN BANDS PRESENT “COLLAGE CONCERT” DEC. 2
HAMMOND – Southeastern
Louisiana University bands will present their annual Collage Concert on
Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:15 p.m. in the Pottle Music Building Auditorium.
The popular concert event
is presented in celebration of the 80 high school musicians chosen to participate
in the Southeastern High School Honor Band Festival, coordinated by Glen
J. Hemberger, Southeastern director of bands.
Each year, more than 400
students from throughout the region are nominated by their high school
band directors for the honor band festival, Hemberger said. The students
then audition for chair placement before members of the Southeastern music
faculty.
Hemberger said this year’s
musicians represent 25 high schools from throughout the state, including
Lafayette, West Monroe, Dutchtown, Northshore, Vanderbilt Catholic, Comeaux
(Lafayette), Mandeville, St. Amant, Alfred Bonnabel (Kenner), and Archbishop
Rummel High School.
"The annual Collage Concert
will feature the Southeastern Wind Symphony and members of the music faculty
in a one-hour extravaganza of musical diversity and flare," he said.
The Wind Symphony will
perform "Variations on 'America'" by Charles Ives, "October" by Eric Whitacre,
and "A Movement for Rosa," written by Mark Camphouse in honor of civil
rights heroine Rosa Parks.
Music faculty performers
include Andrew Seigel, clarinet; Richard Schwartz, saxophone; and Casie
Forbes, tuba. Also featured on the program are the Southeastern Guitar
Quartet, the undergraduate clarinet quartet, and senior music education
major Darell Haynes of Boutte, euphonium.
The 2005 honor band festival
will be conducted by Hemberger and Timothy Schneider, former president
of the Louisiana Music Educators Association. The festival weekend will
culminate with the honor band concert performance on Saturday, Dec. 3,
at 3 p.m. in Pottle Auditorium. All concerts are free and open to the public. |
