SLU OFFERS COMMUNITY MUSIC SCHOOL
     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Department of Music and the
Division of Continuing Education is once again sponsoring the SLU Community Music School
this fall.
     The school offers private music instruction in piano, strings, voice, woodwinds, brass and
percussion; music theory classes and chorus and string ensembles. Students can also participate in
a variety of competitions and performances throughout the academic year and have access to the
SLU department of music computer laboratory.
     "The Community Music School has been offering private lessons for quite some time
now," said director Thais Perkins. "We wanted to offer something new, an exciting addition to
our private lessons.  So we've added some music theory classes to compliment the lessons."
     Registration begins Aug. 26. CMS classes will coincides with the university academic
calendar, observing all breaks and holidays. Fourteen weeks of regularly scheduled individual
lessons begin Sept. 3. Classes begin the week of Sept. 23 and last for 10 weeks.
