SLU INTRODUCES CAPITAL CAMPAIGN TO FACULTY, STAFF
HAMMOND -- Vice President for University Advancement Joe Miller announced the
kick-off of the faculty-staff phase of Southeastern Louisiana University's "Commitment to
Excellence" capital campaign at the university's Spring Convocation March 2. The campaign,
which is being chaired by Phil Livingston, president of Hammond's Deposit Guaranty Bank, has
a base goal of $6,750,000 and a "challenge goal" of $10,750,000.
Donald Nalty, president of the Edward G. Schlieder Foundation, is the campaign's
honorary chair. Charlie Redman, senior vice president of Hibernia National Bank and chairman
of the Southeastern Development Foundation Board, heads the Development Foundation division
and Paul Riggs, SLU Director of Academic Services, will chair the faculty-staff division.
The faculty and staff solicitation is part of the campaign's "private" phase, which also
targets the Development Foundation Board, Miller said. The campaign will "go public" in June
and expand to include donations from corporations, foundations, alumni and residents of
Tangipahoa, St. Tammany and Washington Parishes and the New Orleans and Baton Rouge
metropolitan areas.
The campaign's funding targets are student scholarships, academic programs, faculty and
staff enhancement, distinguished professorships, endowed chairs and the SLU Development
Foundation. In recent months, Miller said Southeastern has received gifts to create new
professorships in kinesiology and health studies, English, psychology, regional studies and
business and at least four new endowed scholarships, as well as several major foundation and
corporate donations.
