SLU CONVOCATION, PICNIC KICK OFF 2001-2002 ACADEMIC YEAR
     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University Interim President Randy Moffett will
begin the new academic year with the annual Fall Faculty/Staff Convocation at 10 a.m., Friday,
August 24, at the Student Activity Center.
     The program will include a review of the accomplishment's of "Vision to the Year 2000,"
Southeastern's first strategic plan, and an introduction to the goals of the new "Vision 2005."
     Moffett and Interim Provost John Crain will recognize the recipients of the President's
Awards for Excellence, the university's highest faculty and staff honor; endowed chairs and
professors; new emeritus faculty; and 25-, 30-, 35- and 40-year service award recipients.
     Special guests will include Commissioner of Higher Education E. Joseph Savoie, who
will present five new endowed professorships.
     Following Convocation,  the Southeastern Alumni Association and the Hammond
Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor a picnic from noon-1 p.m. at the University Center.
The picnic is free for Southeastern employees showing their university I.D., and $5 for
community members.
     Also, the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles will be on hand to sell Southeastern
license plates. A portion of the cost of the license plates goes toward student scholarships.
