SLU'S ROCK 'N ROAR SEEKS PRIZE-WINNING COOKS!
HAMMOND -- Do you have a recipe that your family and friends thinks is "a winner"? Enter
it in the annual Southeastern Louisiana University Alumni Association-Daily Star Rock 'n Roar
Fest
cooking contest and see if they are right!
Rock 'n Roar, a day-long campus festival sponsored by the Alumni Association to unite the
community and roll out the "green and gold carpet" for high school students on campus for the
District Literary Rally, will return March 13 for its third year. Also for the third year, the Alumni
Association and Daily Star will sponsor a cooking contest with categories for cooks of all ages.
Categories are: children ages 8-12 (after school snack); Southeastern students (quick
recipes under 30 minutes); any recipe from community members.
The top four finalists from each category, chosen by members of Southeastern's Family and
Consumer Sciences department, will cook a serving for 12 for a panel of celebrity and
professional
judges at the Rock 'n Roar Fest. A tasting will be open to the public beginning at 1:30 p.m. at
White
Hall. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in each category.
The deadline for submitting recipes is 4 p.m., March 8. Recipes may be brought to the Daily
Star or the Alumni Center. (Be sure to include name, address and phone number.) For additional
information, call the Alumni Association (549-2150) or watch for the cooking contest ad in the
Daily
Star.
Rock 'n Roar Fest III, scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature food, music, North Oaks
Health System Health Fair, Harley Davidson display, plant sale, children's activities (including a
petting zoo), educational displays for Southeastern departments, and baseball, dance and
computer
camps.
