SLU ANNOUNCES 2000 HOMECOMING COURT
HAMMOND -- Seven Southeastern Louisiana University students have been chosen to
reign over 2000 Homecoming festivities, Nov.13-18.
Chosen as members of the court were seniors Natoya Cook of LaPlace, April Dawn
Hawthorne of Bogalusa, LeKedra Robertson of Denham Springs, Carla Scott of Ama, and
Chandra Stacie of Zachary; junior Wandra May of Varnado, and sophomore Lindsey Dykes of
Baton Rouge.
The 2000 Homecoming queen, the top junior or senior vote-getter in the recent campus
election, will be announced at halftime of the Homecoming basketball game when the Lions take
on Dillard University at 2:45 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Southeastern University Center.
The court will also participate in Homecoming festivities such as the Gumbo Ya Ya,
Tons of Fun Food Drive, bonfire and parade, and the Alumni Awards Evening at 7 p.m. Friday,
Nov. 17 in Twelve Oaks. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Russell Carollo ('80) will be honored
as "Alumnus of the Year" at the festive awards evening.
On Homecoming Day, Saturday, Nov. 18, the court will ride in the 11 a.m. parade
through downtown Hammond and will also attend the free pre-game barbecue and alumni
reunions at the Alumni Center.
Cook, the daughter of Cynthia M. Smith, is a social work major and is sweetheart and
president of the Southeastern Gospel Choir. She also is treasurer of the Black Student Caucus
and is a member of the Campus Activities Board and the Dream Team.
Hawthorne is a communication major, minoring in marketing and Spanish. The daughter

SLU HOMECOMING COURT Add One
of Florice Williams and Roosevelt Hawthorne, she is sweetheart of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
She is president and former publicity director of the Campus Activities Board and of the National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Robertson, the daughter of Pauline Talbert, is majoring in social work. The sweetheart of
Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, she serves as government liaison for the Student Government
Association and is entertainment director for the Campus Activities Board. She also is the Black
Student Caucus' liaison on the university's Judicial Board.
Scott is a elementary education and is sweetheart of the Black Student Caucus. The
daughter of Brenda Scott and Curtiss Young, she is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority,
the SLU Gospel Choir, the Student Government Association and Gamma Beta Phi honor and
service society.
Stacie is sweetheart of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. The daughter of Lori Scott, she is a
mass communication major. She was named Southeastern's Orientation Leader of the Year in
2000 and Louisiana's Resident Assistant of the Year in 1999. She is also a Southeastern Student
Ambassador.
May is the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Elvin May Sr. The elementary education major is
sweetheart of Holloway Smith residence hall and is a member of the Holloway Smith Hall
Council and Black Student Caucus.
Dykes, the daughter of Ken and Marilyn Dykes, is a nursing major and is sweetheart of
Theta Chi fraternity. She is an Orientation leader and a member of Theta Phi Alpha sorority and
Gamma Beta Phi.
