LOCAL ARTIST'S WORK TO BE DISPLAYED AT PUBLICATION
RELEASE PARTY
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University student and artist Woody Stevens'
work will be on display at the publication release party for the Outside the Lines chapbook,
Friday, July 16, 4 p.m., at the Hammond Books-A-Million, 2310 West Thomas Street, in the
Town and Country Shopping Center.
Stevens, a sophomore art major from Hammond, created the linoleum block cuts featured
on the cover and in the center of the chapbook, especially for the publication which is the annual
literary collection for the Southeastern Creative Writers Group.
In his artist's statement Stevens said his work for Outside the Lines "represents what I
find to be the essence of the writer or artists: a struggle, mentally, spiritually and even socially, to
achieve his or her unique vision of the tumultuous world in which we live."
Stevens recently won "Best of Show" in the 1999 Southeastern Student Art Show.
The public is invited to the reception where in addition to the artwork on display, the
featured authors will read from their published works and refreshments will be served. Copies of
the publication will also be available.
