AREA TEACHERS PARTICIPATE IN SLU'S PROJECT CYPRESS
     HAMMOND -- Twenty-eight area teachers spent five weeks at Southeastern Louisiana
University this summer learning how to bridge the gap between scientists and junior high and
high school teachers.
     The teachers were participating in Project CYPRESS, an inservice program that uses the
domain of ecology in general and wetlands ecology in particular to integrate the physical, earth
and life sciences. Teachers learn how to design, conduct, analyze and evaluate scientific
experiments and how to integrate mathematics in the science classroom, the greenhouse and in
weekly field trip exercises.
     The program was administered by Project CYPRESS site coordinator Ernie Simoneaux.
