IN NEW YORK CITY
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana
University dance faculty members Dana Brewer-Plazinic and Greta Sharp will
perform at the Monique Golstrom Art Gallery in New York City Saturday,
September 28.
Internationally recognized visual
artist Tova Beck-Friedman invited Brewer-Plazinic to perform at her opening
reception at the gallery, where the two will present their collaboration
on a film combining Beck-Friedman's sculpture and Brewer-Plazinic's choreography.
The two artist met while Brewer-Plazinic's dance company, Izzy Moving Dance
Theatre, was in New York performing at "The Bridge For Dance" in spring
2001.
The gallery performance will
consist of a seven-minute duet by Brewer-Plazinic and Sharp centered around
several large piece sculptures by Beck-Friedman reminiscent of Great Britain’s
ancient Stonehenge. The piece also incorporates interactive photography
and video.
Brewer-Plazinic and Sharp are
both Southeastern graduates and received their master’s degrees from Mills
College in Oakland, Calif. Sharp is a member of Izzy Moving Dance Theatre
and director of Sharp Edges Dance Company.
Izzy Moving Dance Theatre is
currently working on a concert to be performed at the Fine Arts Center
on Constantinople St. in New Orleans November 8-10. For ticket information,
