DAY OF THE DEAD -- Southeastern Louisiana University Lab School art teacher Denise Tullier-Holly, shows first graders the remembrances and other items on the “El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)” altar constructed in the school’s Learning Resource Center. A Mexican national holiday celebrated on November 1 and 2, the Day of the Dead, honors deceased loved ones and friends. An altar commemorating the dead with elements such as food, flowers, crepe paper, calaveras (skulls and skeletons), and photographs of loved ones is a traditional part of the celebration. Tullier-Holly said the Day of the Dead observance is part of the Lab School’s program to integrate social studies and art. From left, are first graders Bryan Mercante, Hannah Lichtl, Dillon Sullivan, Christopher Mercante, Jaye Cox, Tullier-Holly, Skylar Kea, Raymond Holt and Brad Leon.
