SOPRANO EVELYN DE LA ROSA IN RESIDENCE AT SLU APRIL 21-24
     HAMMOND -- Renowned soprano Evelyn de la Rosa will be the Southeastern Louisiana
University Music Department's artist-in-residence April 21-24.
     De la Rosa, who has been described in Opera News as "a vocal/theatrical treasure," will
present a recital of works by Mozart, Schumann, Poulenc and Adam at 7:30 p.m. April 21 in the
Pottle Music Building Auditorium. She will be assisted by pianist Lois Leventhal of the
University of Southern Mississippi and flutist Sara Beth Hanson of the Southeastern's music
faculty and the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. The concert is free to the public.
     Also open to the public is De la Rosa's masterclass for Southeastern voice majors at 4
p.m. April 22 in the Music Recital Hall. Southeastern pianist Ronald Brothers will accompany.
     De la Rosa will lecture and perform for Southeastern music appreciation classes April 22-
24, accompanied by pianist Raisa Voldman.
     De la Rosa is a much sought-after singer, prized for her exceptionally beautiful voice and
impeccable musicianship. This year she has performed Musetta in La Boheme  for both Opera
Carolina and Sacramento Opera and Dona Elvira in Don Giovanni  for Kentucky Opera. As a
soloists, she has appeared with the San Antonio symphony in The Messiah, and with John Rutter
at Carnegie Hall in the Faure Requiem and Mozart Solemn Vespers Mass. 
     De la Rosa has a long-standing relationship with many prominent American companies,
such as Houston Grand Opera, San Francisco Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Opera Carolina,
Sacramento Opera, Anchorage Opera, Opera Pacific and Spoleto/USA. Nevada critics named her
"Entertainer of the Year" over many popular casino headliners. A native of Reno, Nev., she made
her professional debut with San Francisco Opera in 1979 as the Celestial Voice in Don Carlo.
