LEARNING DISABILITIES SUPPORT GROUP TO MEET AT SLU
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University will host a meeting of the learning
disabilities/dyslexia support group at 2 p.m., October 27 in the Cate Teacher Education Center.
The one-hour meeting will be held in Room 105 and is open to educators, parents,
individuals with learning disabilities and anyone interested in dyslexia and other learning
disabilities.
Coordinator Sandra Bailey, a Southeastern education instructor, said the support group's
main purpose is to enable individuals to build a life-long support system that will enhance their
confidence and lead to independent learning. "There are a number of learning disabilities such as
dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, dyscalculia (math disability), dysgraphia (writing disability)
and others, which we'll address" said Bailey.
The group will give helpful ideas on how to enhance learning specifically through study
skills, learning strategies and other methods and let participants share their fears and needs, said
Bailey. Counselors from Southeastern's Student Support Services will also be available to offer
assistance. The group will meet twice a semester. For additional information, call Sandra Bailey
at 504-549-5268.
