SLU'S  ECONOMIC SYMPOSIUM LOOKS TOWARD THE FUTURE
     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University s College of Business, Business
Research Center, the Small Business Development Center and the Hammond Chamber of
Commerce will sponsor a special economic symposium entitled,  Prospects for the Future,  held
in the University Center Thursday, August 27.
               The symposium will be held from 9:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m. in room 133 in the University
Center, and will feature several guest speakers. John J. Cordaro, president of Entergy of
Louisiana, Inc., will discuss his topic of   Energy Deregulation and Its Impact on Business and
Residential Customers,  Madeline Zavodny, an economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of
Atlanta, will present her topic on  Outlook for the Louisiana Economy and Its Banking Sector 
and Wade R. Ragas, director of the Real Estate Market Data Center and professor of finance at
the University of New Orleans, who s topic will be  Outlook for the Real Estate Sector in
Southeastern Louisiana.  
           Beginning at noon, there will be a luncheon meeting, which will feature Gordon A.
Burgess, parish president of Tangipahoa Parish, who will discuss the topic of  Parish Issues of
Importance and Related Concerns.  Sandra L. Lombana, executive director of the Tangipahoa
Economic Development Foundation, will discuss the topic of  Economic Development in
Tangipahoa Parish: Challenges and Opportunities.    The luncheon will also serve as the monthly
general luncheon meeting of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce. A presentation of the Small
Business and Small Businessperson awards will also be given out at this time. 
           Preregistration for the symposium is Friday, August 21, and is requested to ensure
