FREE SEMINAR FOR ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED BUSINESSES AT SLU
HAMMOND -- The Southeastern Louisiana University Small Business Development Center
will offer a free seminar on "Services for Economically Disadvantaged Businesses." The seminar
will be held Tuesday, April 22, 8:30 am- 10:30 am in room 127 of the SLU University Center in
Hammond. Refreshments and handout materials will be provided. To register call the SBDC at 549-
3831.
The seminar will be presented by the Louisiana Department of Economic Development and
will offer an overview of the services now available through their newly created Division of
Economically Disadvantaged Business Department. This division was created by an act of the
legislature to assist businesses owned by economically disadvantaged individuals.
Topics will include: who qualifies as an "Economically Disadvantaged Business" (EDB),
changes in the legislation that affect preferences, the certification process to become registered as an
EDB and business assistance and programs available to local small business owners.
