SLU MUSIC DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES 1997 "ENCORE!" SERIES
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Department of Music has launched
its 1997 edition of "Encore!", the department's spring concert series.
"Encore!" opened Jan. 27 with a guest concert by the Saint Louis Brass Quintet and
continues Jan. 30 with the first of eight faculty recitals, a program called "Classical and Jazz
Connections" by Southeastern pianist and professor Willis Delony. Delony said his recital will
illustrate differences and connections between modern jazz concert pieces and classical works by
Chopin and Scriabin.
"Encore!" boasts 24 programs in all, including guest appearances by soprano Evelyn de la
Rosa, the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus, U.S. Air Force Band tuba player Gil

Also on the "Encore!" schedule are performances by student ensembles and the SLU
