SLU MUSIC DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES SPRING "ENCORE" SERIES
HAMMOND -- The talents of Southeastern Louisiana University music department's faculty
and students will shine this spring in a special series of concerts and recitals christened "Encore."
The Encore series of approximately 20 events begins March 1 with a concert by the SLU
Wind Ensemble, directed by Frank Dubuy. The free concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the
Pottle
Music Building Auditorium.
Unless otherwise noted, events begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Pottle Music Building Auditorium
and are free to the public. The Encore schedule includes:
In March
Pianist Ariane Alexander will present a guest recital at 2 p.m. on March 7.
The world-famous vocal group Chanticleer will make a special guest appearance March
13. The United State's only full-time classical vocal ensemble, Chanticleer has been described as
"an
orchestra of voices." The repertoire of the ensemble's 12 men ranges from Renaissance to jazz and
from gospel to venturesome new music.
Tickets, which will go on sale March 11 in the Pottle Music Building, are $10 general
admission, $8 senior citizens and non-SLU students. SLU students are admitted free with their

Southeastern faculty members will present a chamber music performance at 5 p.m. March
17 at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington.
The Harris/Knight Duo will present at guest guitar recital in the Recital Hall on March 25
and will offer a masterclass for area guitar students at noon in Music Building Room 124. Those
interested can call Patrick Kerber at 549-2886.
The SLU Opera-Music Theatre Program will present "An Evening of One Act

ENCORE -- Add one
Operas," Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi" and Milton Granger's "The Proposal," March 27 and 28.
Tickets -- $5 general admission, SLU students free with university I.D. -- will go on sale
beginning
March 25 in the Pottle Music Building.
In April
Pianist David Evenson, head of the music department, will perform Beethoven's
"Appassionata Sonata" and works by Liszt, Copland and Bach-Liszt.
Pianist and Southeastern alumnus Kerry Baham, formerly of Hammond, will be
spotlighted in a guest recital on April 12.
David Wright, an adjunct member of the music faculty, will present a saxophone recital on
April 15.
Dubuy's Wind Ensemble is back on stage with a performance of Carl Orff's "Carmina
Burana" on April 17.
A "Faculty Jazz" concert is scheduled for April 18.
The Concert Choir, the university's premiere vocal ensemble directed by Brad Richmond,
will perform works by Purcell, Mozart, Byrd, Schumann and Brahms at 5 p.m. April 21 at Christ
Episcopal Church in Covington and at 7:30 p.m. April 24 at Hammond's First United Methodist
Church, 2200 Rue Denise.
The United States Air Force Band will present a concert April 22 at Ponchatoula High
School. Admission to the performance is free of charge; however a ticket is required. To get a

Southeastern's popular Jazz Ensemble, directed by Willis Delony, will present a concert
April 24 at Hammond's First United Methodist Church.
The students of Southeastern's Strings Academy, directed by Yakov Voldman, will present
a concert on April 26. The academy's young students and their teachers will play solos.
The SLU Classical Guitar Ensemble, directed by Patrick Kerber, will be the guests of
Trinity Episcopal Church's "Trinity Artist Series" at 5 p.m. on April 28.

A "Faculty Potpourri" Concert is scheduled for April 29.
In May
On May 2 the Southeastern Chamber Orchestra, directed by Yakov Voldman, will
perform works by Beethoven and Schubert. Pianist Willis Delony will be the guest soloist,
performing
a Mozart piano concerto.
Guitarist Michael Patilla will be Encore's guest May 6. He also will offer a 2 p.m.
masterclass for area guitar students. Anyone interested in participating call call Patrick Kerber at

The Classical Guitar Ensemble will presents its spring concert May 7.
The University Chorus will join the North Shore Choral Society for a performance of
Mozart's "Mass in C Minor" at 7:30 p.m. May 7 at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Baton Rouge.
The Southeastern Guitar Ensemble performs on May 8.
The Wind Ensemble presents a third spring concert, featuring the music of Wolfgang A.
Mozart, on May 9.
