SLU'S SIMS LIBRARY HOSTS "IMPRESSIONS OF FRANCE" EXHIBIT
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Sims Memorial Library will host
"Impressions of France," an exhibit of paintings and drawings by three Louisiana artists, January
26-February 23.
The exhibit features the works of Rolland Golden of Folsom, Roy Pfister of Mandeville
and Sharon Weilbaecher of New Orleans.
For many years, Golden has explored Louisiana's and southern France's luminous
landscapes, finding cultural, historical and personal inspiration in the two countries and in his
friendship with fellow landscape painter, Dr‚han, of Agen, France. The Golden and Dr‚han
families have exchanged a number of visits to their respective homes and the artists have shared
several exhibits, include a 1999 show at the LSU Museum of Arts in Baton Rouge in honor of
Louisiana's celebration of FrancoFete.
Nationally recognized as a medical illustrator, Weilbaecher has pursued a fine arts career
since 1976. Among her many honors, she was one of 22 artists invited by the publishers of
"Forbes" and "American Heritage" magazines to the 1628 Chateau de Balleroy in Normandy for
a nine day visit. Her paintings from her Normandy exhibit are included in the exhibit.
Pfister's art style has been likened to impressionistic realism with a traditional approach.
Although he specializes in graphite, pastel and oil portraits, he has won many awards for his
landscape paintings. His portraits and landscapes hang in homes throughout the United States
and Europe.
Sims Memorial Library is open from 7:30 a.m.-11 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 7:30
a.m.-4:30 p.m., Friday; 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, and 2 p.m.-10 p.m., Sunday. For additional
information about the exhibit, call Don Marshall, Clark Hall Gallery director, 504-549-5080.
