SLU PROFESSOR AWARDED FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR GRANT 
     HAMMOND -- Jana K. Schulman, assistant professor of English at Southeastern
Louisiana University, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright scholar grant for the 1997-98
academic year.
     The Fulbright Program, sponsored and funded by the United States Information Agency,
has been recognized for the past 50 years as one of the most important programs in international
educational exchange. Each Fulbright application undergoes a strict review administered by the
Council for International Exchange of Scholars.  
     Through the Fulbright Program, Schulman will spend the spring semester at the Arni
Magnusson Institute in Reykjavik, Iceland, where she will continue research on the subject of her
doctoral dissertation, Medieval Iceland legal text. She also will translate and edit the Medieval
law book  Johnsbok,  that will be published as part of   Biblio theca Germainca,  series of 13th
century legal documents.
     Schulman will return to Southeastern at the end of the spring semester.
