GOSPEL MUSIC WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AT SLU AUGUST 4-14
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Seventh Annual Gospel Music
Summer Workshop takes place August 4 -14 and concludes with a performance on Saturday
August 16 at 7:30 pm. The theme for the workshop is "Out of the Mouths of Babes Come
Perfected Praise."
The workshop is open to young people ages 10-22. The $12 registration fee includes the
workshop and a t-shirt. Registration will be held Monday-Wednesday August 4-6, 6-7:30 pm.
Parents must accompany children under 18.
Registration, rehearsals and the performance will take place in the Pottle Music Building
Auditorium. Rehearsals will be held Monday-Thursday nights from 6 pm-9 pm for two weeks.
In addition to singing, the performance will include skits and dramatic interpretations.
Tickets for the performance are $5 for adults and $2 for children 3-9 years old. Younger children
will be admitted free. Tickets will be sold at the door beginning at 6 pm on performance night.
"It's something for the kids to get involved in," said student coordinator LaShun
Robinson, a senior nursing student from Franklinton. "Last year we had 165 participants. It gives
them something to do and enhances their appreciation of gospel music."
The two-week Gospel Music Workshop and Concert is designed to strengthen the
participant's musical skills and increase their knowledge of the historical roots of gospel.
The workshop also offers two $500.00 scholarships to qualified workshop participants.
Deadline for scholarship registration is August 4. For more information contact the Office of
Multicultural Affairs at 549-2213.
