GREEKS SCARE UP FUN IN "NIGHTMARE ON OAK STREET"
HAMMOND Southeastern Louisiana University's Interfraternity Council will help
sponsor Special Olympics Louisiana's "Nightmare on Oak Street" from 6 to 9 p.m., October 29-
31 at North Oaks Park. Admission for the spooky Halloween festivities is $5.
The highlight of the event will be the "haunted hayride" around North Oak Park, where
Southeastern fraternities and sororities will provide the scares.
"It's a haunted house on wheels," Dollie Hebert, director of Southeastern's Recreational
Sports and Wellness Department, said of the hayride. The "scares" will be of a fanciful nature,
suitable for all ages, she said. "No blood and gore."
The haunted hayride will make its way around the park every 15 minutes. Throughout the
park, Southeastern fraternities and sororities will be stationed in spooky settings, clad in their
scariest costumes in their own frightful settings. Participating sororities and fraternities include
Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Sigma Tau, Phi Mu, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Theta Phi Alpha, Theta Xi,
Delta Tau Delta and Kappa Delta Tau.
Entertainment includes adult and children costume contests, music, games, face painting,
a supervised playground area and an hourly screaming contest.
"We want to see who can scream the loudest, the scariest, every hour on the hour," said
Hebert.
Money raised by "Nightmare on Oak Street" will be used to help insure the state-wide
Summer 2001 Special Olympic games held in Hammond will be extra "special." For further
information or to schedule a group haunted hayride, call 504-345-6644 or 1-800-345-6644.
