Homecoming Schedule accompanies release
SOUTHEASTERN GOES HOLLYWOOD FOR HOMECOMING 1999
     HAMMOND -- Mississippi native Harold W. Jackson, a 1956 Southeastern graduate and
president of Sunsweet Growers Inc. and Sunsweet Dryers, will be honored as Southeastern
Louisiana University's 1999 Alumnus of the Year at the annual Alumni Awards Evening on Nov.
19.
     The event, scheduled for 7 p.m., at Twelve Oaks, will launch Southeastern's 1999
Homecoming weekend, preceded by a week of student activities and a campus-community bonfire
and street dance.
     Tickets for the Awards Evening, which also will feature announcement of the
Distinguished Service Award, are available at the Alumni Center, 504-549-2150 or
1-800-SLU-ALUM. Ticket price is $15.
     Homecoming 1999 will continue its award-winning (and student- and alumni-pleasing!)
fun-and-friends format that has been a hit for the past three years, Kathy Pittman, director of
Alumni Relations, said. "This year's theme is  Southeastern Goes Hollywood,' she said. "We all
know our university certainly is a super star and so are all of our alumni and the entire campus
community. Homecoming is the time that we all come together to share our memories and have a
good time. We hope all of our alumni and Southeastern supporters will  come home' to enjoy the
bonfire, Awards Evening, parade, reunions, and basketball game."
     Led by the Dream Team, Southeastern's student Homecoming committee, students will
kick off Homecoming action with a noon celebration, including a pep rally and the Fashion
Council's annual fashion show on Monday, Nov. 15, in the Student Union Mall. On Tuesday,
Nov. 16, students will "get goofy" playing Hollywood inspired games sponsored by student

organizations and, on Wednesday, Nov. 17, the campus will enjoy free food, fun, games and 
music during the Campus Activities Board's Gumbo Ya Ya.
     Thursday, Nov. 18, will be a big day that includes Southeastern's Pride Day, the
Hammond Chamber of Commerce's monthly community social, Chamber After Hours, at the
Alumni Center, followed by the annual Homecoming bonfire and a street dance.
     Earlier that day, Gamma Beta Phi will conduct its Two Tons of Fun Food Drive,
collecting food for the Tangipahoa Food Pantry's holiday needs. The university community will
also help celebrate Homecoming through its annual Pride Day festivities. 
     At the Friday, Nov. 19 Awards Evening the honors spotlight will also shine on a trio of
award-winners. Former Athletic Director Pat Kenelly, Class of  47, will receive the Alumni
Association's Distinguished Service Award; Gene Prejeant, Class of  80, will be the newest
recipient of the L.E. Chandler Award, which spotlights service to students; and Southeastern
Development Foundation board member Ann Mentz of New Orleans, Class of  56, will be given
the university's prestigious  "Alumni Golden Ambassador" accolade. 
     Also on Friday night, the SLU Rodeo Association also will sponsor a "Bull Bash" Rodeo
at 7 p.m. in Cefalu Coliseum. The rodeo continues at the same time and place on Saturday, Nov.
20.
     Homecoming Day, Nov. 20, will get off to a running start with the annual Options Holiday
Prance Fun Run. The day's events include an open house at the Alumni Center; the parade,
featuring more floats and bands than ever; the Homecoming game, SLU versus Southern, in the
University Center arena, and a rodeo Homecoming night at Cefalu Coliseum. 
     The Homecoming barbecue is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alumni Center
and will feature good food, games for children, and class, club and Greek reunions.
Queen of Homecoming 1998 Tangie Jackson will transfer her crown to her successor at the
game's halftime. Also at halftime, Roomie, Southeastern's mascot will help President Sally
Clausen draw the names of Homecoming prize winners. 
     If your game seat number is drawn, you will win $400 (two $100 American Express gift
