ASA HILLIARD TO SPEAK AT SLU FORUM ON  DIVERSITY 
     HAMMOND   Diversity and multicultural education will be the focus of a Southeastern
Louisiana University College of Education forum on April 4.  The forum titled, "Improving the
Knowledge, Skills and Dispositions of Educators: A look at Diversity and Multicultural
Education in 21st Century America," will be held 10 a.m. in the Teacher Education Center Kiva. 
          Educator, psychologist and historian Asa G. Hilliard will be the guest speaker. 
     A contributor to many outstanding academic causes, Hilliard is the Fuller E. Callaway
Professor of Urban Education at Georgia State University. He has researched topics such as the
proficiency assessment of professional educators, developmental assessments of young children
and infants and multicultural education. Several of his programs in curriculum, assessment, and
valid teaching have become national models. 
     Hilliard  is the founder of the Association of the Study of Classical African Civilization,
and leads annual tours of academicians to Egypt.  He is also the co-producer of several award
winning education television show. 
     Hilliard earned a bachelor's degree in psychology, master's degree in counseling, and
doctoral degree in educational psychology from the University of Denver, where he also taught
in the College of Education, and in the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Program. He also
taught in the Denver Public Schools. While serving on the faculty at San Francisco State
University for 18 years, he was department chair for two years, and dean of education for eight
years.
