SOUTHEASTERN PROFESSOR PERFORMS RECITAL
     HAMMOND -- One of the newest additions to Southeastern Louisiana University's
music department, pianist Henry Jones, will perform a solo recital at 7:30 p.m., Thursday,
September 9 in the Music Recital Hall. 
     Jones will perform works by Mussorgsky, Chopin, Schumann, and Poulenc. His recital is
free to the public. 
     Jones is a  graduate of Yale University and Louisiana State University, where he received
a doctoral degree in piano. He was a free-lance vocal coach and accompanist for ten years in
New York City, participating in choral and voice recitals at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center
and in Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, including "Evita," "Jerome Robbins' Broadway" and
"The Fantastiks." He also was musical director of a gymnastics exhibition in Madison Square
Garden. 
     Jones has also taught and headed piano programs at Minot State University in North
Dakota and Missouri Southern State College. He was a winner of the Louisiana State University
Symphony Concerto Competition and was nominated several times for best musical director by
the Manhattan Association of Cabarets. He has performed solo and chamber recitals in many
venues.
