SLU HOMECOMING CELEBRATES "SOUTHEASTERN NETWORK"
HAMMOND -- Inspired by the colorful, comic world of cartoons, the Dream Team,
Southeastern Louisiana University's student homecoming committee, has chosen "The
Southeastern Network" as the theme for Homecoming 2001.
"Southeastern Network is a play on the popular 'Cartoon Network' on cable television.
"We're going to have a lot of fun decorating with this theme," said Dream Team advisor Jackie
director of Leadership Development/Student Activities. "Cartoons gives us endless, zany
possibilities. Besides, it's good right now for all of us to have a reason to laugh."
Homecoming festivities will kick off on Monday, November 12, with a pep rally,
introduction of the women's and men's Homecoming courts, and the Fashion Council's annual
fashion show at noon in the Student Union Mall. Activities will climax on Friday, November 16,
with the Homecoming parade, Lions vs. Louisiana College Homecoming basketball game, and
crowning of the 2001 queen and king.
"With the basketball game already scheduled on Friday evening, we thought we would
consolidate some of the activities that have traditionally been on Saturday around that showcase
event," said Alumni Director Kathy Pittman.
In addition to the kick-off pep rally at noon on Monday, that night the Dream Team will
"goofy games" such as "Human Sundaes" at 8 p.m. in the Student Union.
The Student Government Association will sponsor a Homecoming dance at 7 p.m.
Tuesday, November 13, at in the Student Union ballroom. On Wednesday, November 14,
students will party at the annual Gumbo Ya Ya in the union park.
On Thursday, November 15, students will stage their annual "Two Tons of Fun" holiday
food drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the union mall. That evening, the Alumni Association will
help host the Chamber After Hours social at the Alumni Center from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. At 5:30

A $100 prize will be awarded to an individual whose seat number is drawn during the
Homecoming game, Pittman said. A second drawing, also for $100, will choose one winner
among those who caught a special giant-sized doubloon at the parade.
