RUMMAGE SALE AIDS SLU DANCE STUDENTS
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University dance students will sponsor a
rummage sale beginning at 7 a.m., Saturday, April 4, to help finance a planned trip to New York
City.
Members of the Izzy Dance Organization, will hold the sale in the dance studio (Room
153) of the Southeastern Kinesiology and Health Studies Building.
Items for sale include clothing, toys, costumes, typewriters and other electronic
equipment, said Southeastern dance instructor Dana Brewer, the organization's sponsor. Izzy
Dance Organization is composed of advanced student dancers who perform on a professional
level, Brewer said.
The students need to raise approximately $3,500 for the two-week New York trip,
planned for August, Brewer said. In New York, the students will take professional dance classes
and will give a performance of a work called "Pieces" at a rented theatre on Second Avenue on
the final Friday and Saturday nights of their stay. Eight Southeastern dancers are hoping to make
the trip with Brewer.
As an additional fund-raiser, the students will conduct a dance workshop for children on
June 6. Young dancers of all ages are invited to learn aerobics, tumbling and gymnastics, and
jazz dance techniques.
For additional information, call Brewer at 549-5254 or 2130.
