JAZZ AMBASSADORS TO PERFORM IN FREE CONCERT IN PONCHATOULA
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's department of music will present
the military band, the Jazz Ambassadors on Saturday November 6, 7:30 p.m. at the
Ponchatoula High School Auditorium. The concert is free, however a ticket is required for

One of four components of the U.S. Army Field Band of Washington, D.C., the Jazz
Ambassadors is the official touring jazz ensemble of the Department of the Army.
Organized in 1969, this versatile 19 piece ensemble travels over 100 days annually
presenting a musical package that appeals to all ages. They carry the sounds of pop and patriotic
music, melodic big band tunes and modern jazz to every part of the world.
The musicians of the Jazz Ambassadors have earned widespread acclaim with their
distinctive musical styling. Their performance includes tunes ranging from the swing sound of
the '30s to the popular songs of today.
Many of the band's performers are also adept composers and arrangers and their original
compositions are sprinkled throughout each program.
To ensure that the Army's message of patriotism and goodwill is presented by the finest
musicians, members of the Jazz Ambassadors are selected through competitive auditions. Jazz
Ambassadors alumni have performed with the big bands of Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Maynard
Ferguson, Woody Herman, Mel Lewis, Doc Severinsen and many others.
