JAZZ ENSEMBLE TAKES THE STAGE APRIL 24
HAMMOND The Southeastern Louisiana University Jazz Ensemble, directed by John
Perrine, will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, at Pottle Music Building
Auditorium.
The program will also feature a variety of chamber jazz groups and compositions by
Perrine and graduate student Brennan Arceneaux of Hammond. The Jazz Ensemble also will
perform the music of Sammy Nestico, Thad Jones, Frank Mantooth, Matt Harris, Joe Zawinul.
Jazz Ensemble members are Lee Hicks, Metairie; Marcia Lyons, Ponchatoula; Nick
Kates, Denham Springs; Michael Lupton, Nick Landry, Slidell; Dominick Messina, Bush;
Preston Smith, San Antonio, Texas; Justin Albritton, Kenner; Thomas Timphony, Todd
Schockley, Demarr Woods, Brennan Arceneaux, Hammond; Randy Joyal, Pueblo, Colo.; Britt
Cantrell, Walker; Eduardo Tozzatto, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; Chris Babin, Baton Rouge;
Freddie Fland, Bogalusa; Jathan Maricelli, Covington.
The Jazz Ensemble's director, John Perrine, saxophone, is in his first year at
Southeastern. A graduate of Stetson and Northwestern Universities, he currently is pursuing
doctoral studies at Louisiana State University. His interests lie both in the traditional repertoire of
the saxophone as well as jazz-influenced pieces and works from the standard jazz repertoire.
Perrine also champions new music written for the saxophone as well as transcriptions of works
for other instruments.
