SOUTHEASTERN ADMINISTRATOR TO JOIN BOARD OF REGENTS
HAMMOND Kim Hunter Reed of Baton Rouge, Southeastern Louisiana University
executive assistant to the president, has accepted a new position with the Louisiana Board of
Regents, the state's coordinating body for public colleges and universities.
Hunter Reed, who has held the Southeastern position for five years, was approved by the
Board on Thursday as Deputy Commissioner of Public Affairs. She will report to her new job on
January 2, 2001.
"Kim's departure will leave an obvious void at Southeastern and her loss to the university will
be great," said university President Sally Clausen. "Her positive, 'can-do' attitude is infectious,
and her eagerness to tackle any issues or projects has greatly benefitted Southeastern and the
entire community. However, she deserves the opportunity to grow professionally, and the Board
of Regents is gaining a talented, dedicated advocate for higher education."
Clausen jokingly suggested that the loss of such a valuable employee by Southeastern "should
be worth 100 percent of formula funding for the university." State Commissioner of Higher
Education E. Joseph Savoie smiled at the suggestion and said he would make that
recommendation to the Legislature.
A former Baton Rouge television reporter/anchor and press secretary for former Gov. Edwin
Edwards, Hunter Reed filled on an interim basis several other administrative positions at the
university, including vice president of student affairs and director of public information. A Lake
Charles native, she is currently completing work on a doctorate in public administration at
Southern University in Baton Rouge.
