SOUTHEASTERN’S KSLU TO AIR SPECIAL PROGRAMS ON SEPT. 11

HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University’s public radio station, 90.9 KSLU Alternative Public Radio, has scheduled a day of special programs on Wednesday, Sept. 11, the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
From 6 to 9 a.m., Southeastern communication faculty members Mike Applin and Joe Burns, who hosted KSLU's live coverage of the events on the day of the attack, will join KSLU News Director Mary Pirosko to discuss the events and how the university, the region and the country have responded.
KSLU General Manager Wayne Cain said the station plans to interview guests such as Southeastern  President Randy Moffett, Provost John Crain and members of the university community. Moments of silence will mark the times of significant events during the morning.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. KSLU will present "Southeastern’s Toll for Freedom: A 9/11 Radio Remembrance." Cain said the show, featuring interviews and music, will focus on the events of Sept. 11 and how they have altered society on both personal and international levels. The broadcast will include comments from Hammond Mayor Louis Tallo and students from other countries who attend Southeastern. Hammond physician Ted Hudspeth, founder of the Northshore Regional Endowment for the Arts, will coordinate the local musicians whose performances will be featured during the show.
The university's Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony in the War Memorial Student Union park will be broadcast live at noon.
